RODE Architects collaborated with Lend Lease Development, Hudson Group North America, and Eagle Development Partners; as well as design firms Graziani + Corazza, Perkins Eastman and landscape architects, Copley Wolff; on the response to the Boston Redevelopment Authority’s request for proposals.
Our proposal response highlighted a mixed-use tower that introduces five urban experiences within its footprint: a standalone cultural pavilion that creates an active cultural destination; Winthrop Square Park; “The Steps", that include “a series of meandering, grand steps and ramps on Devonshire Street” which continuously work to draw connections between now-divided neighboring communities; an experimental theater/education center; and an observation deck/learning hub that features expansive 360 degree views of Boston.
The team’s approach to the design derived from and continuously works to strengthen a guiding concept. It helps to better establish a cohesive street retail culture and links between vibrant city districts and active commercial corridors, transforming a space and an entire neighborhood.
