Description

The Bornstein and Pearl Food Production Center - now the home of CommonWealth Kitchen - was the commercial centerpiece of an ambitious collaborative effort to revitalize the Quincy St corridor in Roxbury.

The project changed a former meat processing plant into a hub of food production, job training, and business growth. The windowless, 36,000 sf floorplate required a deep renovation, and now houses a shared commercial kitchen, food truck commissary, and several smaller production spaces.

The 36,000 sf existing building was designed for food - not people.

By introducing a series of new skylights, RODE introduced natural light that doubles as wayfinding. A path of common area spaces and amenities line this new circulation path.
