Description
Choice Hotels sought a site-specific design concept for their flagship Cambria property. RODE developed a multilayered design strategy that crafts an upscale atmosphere that is uniquely Boston.
The hotel anchors the West Broadway gateway into South Boston, with an active, folded curtainwall edge that engages the public square and extends the activity of the hotel out into the public realm.
RODE was the architect for the exterior and all elements of the interior design, common areas and suites, FFE, and OSE.
The building’s form responds to the irregular geometries and view corridors of its site. The interior spaces tap into the architectural language of Fort Point, leading to simple but confident moves in familiar brick + beam textures. Light and nature appear as engaging, active elements in this hyper-urban location in a simple, sophisticated palette of shadows traced over solid forms. Finally, a personality emerges by referencing literature conceived by Boston and New England authors, an intellectual presence that connects to history and inspires travelers in this new space.
