Description

Steps away from Boston’s historic city center, RODE is designing a 12-story, 83-key boutique hotel destination. Our design will restore and reconstruct the existing 1800s stone facade and revitalize the Hamilton Place streetscape with a bright, welcoming cafe and entry courtyard. Growing out of the historic facade, is the sleek, modern tower addition. The tower will compliment the existing massing while fitting seamlessly into Boston’s skyline.

We crafted a tower within an existing, historic building to rejuvenate and activate an alleyway in Downtown Boston.

The as-of-right project, situated on a small site, works within the confines of its zoning envelope to develop an articulated facade that is reminiscent of the historic bay windows. The all-metal and glass facade, rising out of the historic stone facade, provides an airy juxtaposition to its neighboring context.

The tower form is inspired by the ornamental bay windows found throughout the Ladder Blocks district and within the existing facade. The result is an undulating floorplate that provides a unique view and geometry for each room, a truly boutique experience for every guest.
Modern, luxurious interiors fuse natural elements with a futuristic flair. The curated environment is serene and calm during the day, transforming into a neon oasis come sundown. This uniquely dual ambiance will welcome travelers looking for a special experience within the center of Boston’s history.
The entry courtyard treats the existing facade as a contemporary "ruin". Guests pass through the historic building to where the tower fully presents itself; landing on the ground to form the entry and projecting up and out of the 1800's facade.
